The City of Santa Rosa Recreation & Parks Department is working with the Water Department to amend the A Place to Play Park Master Plan to include the following four changes:

1) Addition of a new emergency well and water system to be located near the southwest corner of the park. The proposed emergency groundwater well will offer a viable option in the event of an emergency, such as an earthquake that would disrupt the public water system, or disconnection or interruption to the Sonoma County Water Agency (SCWA) system. The water provided by the emergency well would provide a temporary water source to Santa Rosa Water customers, such as hospitals, schools, nursing facilities, homes and businesses.

2) Addition of an existing recycled water pump station that is currently located in the northwest area of the park. This pump station was installed in the park in 2007 and the change to the master plan reflects this alteration.

3) Addition of picnic areas to be located near existing and future playgrounds.

4)  Addition of three hydration stations and/or drinking fountains (locations to be determined).

The City would like your input on the proposed changes. Please refer to the "Topic" below to view an enlarged graphic of the Master Plan and to leave your comments.

For specific questions about the new emergency well and water system, please contact Jillian Tilles at jtilles@srcity.org or (707) 543-3878. For other questions about the proposed Master Plan amendments, please contact Adriane Mertens at (707) 543-3276 or amertens@srcity.org.

I am heartened to see the addition of three hydration stations proposed for the playing fields at A Play to Play. The hydration stations should be spaced equally across the currently used and proposed fields, with provisions to tap into the waterlines for additional water stations as new fields come into use. With the consumption of additional fluids, the participants on the fields and other park event attendees will be healthier individuals--and soon we will need to build additional facilities for them to "relieve" themselves of these additional fluids as well!

One of the most used features in this growing park is the rc track. It would be great to have a hydration station close by, with the thoughts of a restroom in the near future. The rc track is a fantastic addition to Sonoma County, and the Santa Rosa Rec and Parks Dept should be congratulated for thinking out side the normal park box. Thank you!

The master plan has been changed so much! no basketball courts, no volleyball courts no horseshoes..am glad to see bocce ball is still there. If the city wants continued use of the soccer fields as a sports complex it makes no sense to not add hydration stations when there is money for picnic areas. 6 soccer fields is a long way to walk with a thirsty kid to who needs to use the bathroom! water-bottle filling stations should be mandatory at a sports park.

I have trouble understanding how a permit system would work between soccer and baseball on the 2 future fields at the south par of the park. Baseball has fences so only until baseball is over could the soccer use start? This would be best if these field were lighted and there is one dedicated baseball field and 1 dedicated soccer/lacrosse field. Petaluma makes good income on their rents of the all-weather lighted fields! ps the concession stand opened for a year in around 2000 and then closed??...the county makes rent money off the concessions of their parks from Little League, soccer clubs. why not look into another revenue source and support the park users!
